Reduction of an amount of precipitation and growth of solar radiation last four years have led to that the water level in lake was reduced to a critical minimum that did not happen since 1949. As a result under the threat have appeared vegetation and territories where fish comes on spawning.
Титикака, the largest lake of the South America and the highest in the world the navigable lake, is located on border of Peru and Bolivia, on plateau Altiplano. The area of a water mirror makes 8 400 sq. km. Salinity of water is equal 1 %, therefore lake it is considered fresh-water. In Titikaku runs more than 25 rivers which are flowing down from glaciers which surround Altiplano, and the river Desaguadero running in lake Poopo in territory of Bolivia follows. The lake "feeds" about 2,6 million persons.
According to ecologists, Titikaka becomes shallow on 2–3 sm a week. Since April the water level in lake has fallen on 81 centimetre. If 30 more centimetres leave, the irreparable damage will be caused to local flora and fauna.
The Bolivian authorities assert that today about 95 % of water arriving in lake evaporates. Experts blame for it reduction of a season of rains since six months to three that is caused by climate changes. This year the season of rains should begin in the middle of November.
