Africa cancer epidemic because of incessant increase in number of smokers expects. Within the next twelve years more than half of African countries will double tobacco consumption if the existing tendency remains.
According to the American oncological community (ACS), about 90 % of the population of Africa are not protected from passive smoking which causes a cancer in adult people and a pneumonia at children. And though some states of continent pass the laws forbidding smoking, public places without a tobacco smoke meet while seldom.
For last forty years number of smokers in the developed countries, such as the USA, Great Britain and Japan, was considerably reduced, but has grown in the majority of the developing states. Under forecasts ACS, in 2010 smoking will kill 6 million persons, and 72 % of death is necessary on the countries with low and an income average level.
Experts urge the governments of the African countries to show consideration for a problem and to protect non-smoking citizens from a tobacco smoke, having accepted a number of measures for reduction of quantity of smokers. For example, it is possible to lower tobacco consumption on 60 % if to raise taxes to tobacco production: it will increase the price for cigarettes twice, and smoking by much becomes too expensive.
