 Scientists from University of Washington in Saint Louis (USA) and Royal veterinary college (Great Britain), having estimated quantity of energy which representatives of 13 various groups of dinosaurs spent for movement, have shown that in many cases this figure exceeds possibilities холоднокровных animals.
It is known that modern kinds warm-blooded are capable to spend much more intensively energy, than холоднокровные. This difference is expressed in so-called aerobic ability (VO2 max) — organism possibilities to pump over and use strictly limited volume of oxygen at a physical activity. Hence, if someone managed to calculate power "price" of walking and run of dinosaurs, it could be compared with accessible for холоднокровных animals indicators and to draw certain conclusions.
In the work authors used two design procedures. The first, as much as possible simple, connects power inputs on walking with length of a foot of an animal (distance from a coxofemoral joint to the earth). Surprisingly, but for many modern kinds such technique yields very exact results.
The second scheme is more difficult and assumes definition of total amount of muscles of the dinosaurs involved at movement. At calculations by scientist it was necessary to consider at once some factors: weight of a body of dinosaurs, features of their "landing" at moving and anatomic characteristics of the bottom finitenesses — the sizes of bone ledges to which muscles were attached.
