 25 % of schools yet have no access to the network, but the authorities promise to stretch Wi-Fi by the end of this year. In total the state elementary schools have received 380 thousand portable computers. Not all teachers of this small (3,34 million persons) the South American country remained are happy with reform. Some consider that money could be started up on development of rural schools or increase of the salary to teachers.
The cheap power saving up laptops of mark XO supplied with operating system Linux and a camera, have been developed by the professor of the Massachusetsky institute of technology (USA) Nicolas Negroponte. The scientist has founded also organisation One Laptop per Child («to Each child r13; on the laptop»).
Distribution of laptops in Uruguay has been initiated by Tabare Vaskesom, the first president representing the left political wing, in 2006. Three-year project CEIBAL (Conectividad Educativa de Informática Básica para el Aprendizaje en Línea) has managed to the state in $94 million (on $248 for the laptop), including expenses on the Internet and warranty service. These are 5 % of the budget of the Ministry of Education.
On the threshold of the next elections appointed for November, 29th, the authorities declared that distribution of computers will be spent and among senior pupils.
